Care in the Cave
1 Kings 18:4
For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water. Our loving Father is so gracious to extend His care in the midst of difficult times. The prophets of the Lord were under a death threat from Jezebel. However, in the midst of this difficult time, the Lord raised up another prophet, not victimized by her threat, to protect His people. Not only was their life threatened but the land was experiencing a famine producing drought. Providing bread and water demonstrated God’s care while they where in the cave. Caves where often used as final resting places for the dead. Here the prophets where driven to a death chamber, but the grace of God released through Obadiah sent the message that you shall not die but live through this. Though their situation did not immediately change, they experienced the loving care of a God who said that He would never leave us nor forsake us. Thank God for the obedience of Obadiah. His act of kindness and protection helped them to endure the harshness of their persecution until their breakthrough came. May the Lord raise up more Obadiahs to help His servants has we work to advance His Kingdom while continuing to endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
